Research Ethics BC is the newest resource within the BC AHSN organization. Formerly known as the BC Ethics Harmonization Initiative, Research Ethics BC supports a provincial, harmonized system for research ethics reviews of multi-jurisdictional studies involving human subjects (i.e. involving the resources, people, patients or data from more than one BC institution).
On May 28, Research Ethics Board Administrators (REBAs) from across BC got their first look at Research Ethics BC’s new Provincial Research Ethics Platform (PREP). This shared technology platform, hosted through UBC’s RISe system, will bring BC’s harmonized ethics review process online.
The REBA training day focused on introducing the PREP system and offering networking opportunities for administrators across Research Ethics BC’s partner institutions. Participants were able to test drive the PREP system and provide their feedback. They also discussed how research ethics harmonization can move forward in BC.
The joint efforts of Jean Ruiz (business analysist for the PREP system), the UBC RISe team and the Research Ethics BC advisory committee resulted in a day of enthusiastic participation and excellent feedback.
The PREP system is scheduled to launch this summer, and will merge seamlessly into existing UBC RISe workflows for current users. New users will be introduced to the system over the summer and fall.
